Johnny Depp & Christian Bale in---Public Enemies (2009)

Accumulating my research from many sources I have compiled a concise background on John Dillinger and some issue of the “Great Depression.”

Some history updates from the Depression Era and facts about the real John Dillinger. John’s Mother died when he was three (3) years old.  His father remarried years later so young John had a step-mother whom he a hated at first, but he soon become fond of her.

John Herbert Dillinger, Jr. was 26 years old when the “Great Depression Era” began in 1929 shortly after the stock market crashed, in October.

It wiped out millions of investors, because Wall Street freaked out and consumer spending dwindled; which led to massive layoffs. Unemployment was quoted--- 13 to 15 million people were unemployed--- when the Depression had reached its lowest possible point.

Some of the wealthiest people had lost everything and  were now broke and broken; and the many who could not take the pressure or the shame committed suicide. Stories spread about the people who were once Millionaires now stood in food lines along with the ones they once employed. It was a sad and grave time and almost half of the banks in America had failed.

People blamed the banks for all their issues and when John Dillinger and his gang starting robbing banks the people cheered---Dillinger was their hero because he took was from the evil banks that took from the hard working people. He was like Robin Hood to them, because he never took from people, just the banks during a robbery.

Let’s begin our review for the movie Public Enemies the story of John Herbert Dillinger, Jr. (Johnny Depp). As the movie opens John is being taken back to prison by his friend “Red” Hamilton (Jason Clark) who was posing as a lawman as a setup for a jail break.

John had just gotten out of this prison eight (8) week prior to this jail break plan, but here he
was again here to help release his friends.  During the prison break John’s friend Walter Dierich
was shot in the back, so he did not make it. And the guy John blamed for this he pushed him out of the get-away car, after hitting him in the face a few times.

While all this was happening Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) shot and killed Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) and his name fit him because he was very handsome. So that was one down and two to go as per the FBI’s instruction from J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) to eliminate also, Baby Face Nelson (Steven Graham).

J. Edgar Hoover many were declaring was using the tracking and the murdering of these men for his own agenda of receiving more money to fund his FBI department.

John and his gang made it to Chicago, where they were enjoying dinner; drinking and the other gang members connect with the woman of their choice. While John sit alone at his table watching a woman who caught his eye. Then he walked over and asked her to dance, and she accepted his hand.
Her name was Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) and John Dillinger falls hard for her---she was the only woman he ever loved and with his dying words sent her a message to prove it.

Billie asked John his name and what did he do as they sat in a fancy restaurant eating their dinner. John told her---I am John Dillinger, I rob banks. Billie stared at John and said--- that is something to tell a person you just met. John told her he would never lie to her, and that the only important thing in life is where one is going.
This is a great action, crime, suspense and romance movie which gives input to many questions about what really happened in John Dillinger's life from this movie. I loved this so much because Johnny Depp was in it  so I purchased the DVD.
I hope everyone buys a DVD and enjoys it as much as I enjoy all mine, especially by latest one Public Enemies.

Tom Selleck & Laura San Giacomo in---Quigley Down Under (1990)

Around 1876 a wealthy Australian cattle baron by the name of Elliott Marston(Alan Rickman) advertised for the best long distance sharpshooter in the World to travel to the rough and remote Australia countryside to kill dingoes for him. And he was paying a large amount for this service.

When Matthew Quigley(Tom Selleck) read this ad in Montana, USA, he answered the ad stating that he could hit a target at 900 yards. Elliott Marston sent word for him to come to Australia.

When the ship docks we catch a glimpse of Matthew Quigley’s temper as a rough overbearing passenger tries to depart the ship by butting in front of an old couple.

Matthew stops him with butt of his gun in his Netherlands region. Matthew smiled at the couple as they proceed down the ramp telling them the gentleman was not in a hurry.

No sooner has Matthew’s feet hit the wooden dock carrying his saddle and his gun; that he gets in-boiled in Crazy Cora’s(Laura San Giacomo) fight. She started calling him Roy as soon as she saw him telling one and all he is her husband.

Matthew tells her is not Roy, as he rescues her from the men who were trying to put her on their wagon.

After Matthew beats the guys up; they find out that Quigley is the one their Boss sent them bring back to the cattle ranch. Looking at Matthew’s facial expression one can almost hear him say, Oh no---I am going to ride this wagon with her—Crazy Cora.
Now the adventure begins with Cora and Matthew and if you buy or rent this movie you will not regret it, because it is a great movie with great Australia countryside.

Toby Keith in---Beer For My Horses (2008)

In the beginning of the movie we see Joe Bill “Rack” Racklin (Toby Keith) an Oklahoma Deputy Sheriff, in Greer County which is known as the Crystal Methamphetamine center of the region.

Rack works with his best friend Lonnie Luther Feldman (Rodney Carrington) who is funny, but equally a few bricks short of a load. The change in his pocket is probably a higher number than his I.Q. score.

Rack’s was late to his girlfriend Cammie’s (Gina Gershon) birthday celebration, so when Rack got home she was leaving him. After she had a few heated words Cammie backed over his lawn mower and then left.

It didn’t seem to bother Rack as looked down at the uneaten celebration food on the table; he took a drink of beer and said, “It looks like Daddy needs to buy another lawn mower.”

Rack heard that his high-school sweetheart, Annie Streets (Claire Forlani) is back in town. Annie came home to take care of her mother who was ill or so Annie thought at the time.

Rack goes to see her at her step-father’s ranch. Her step-father Buck Baker (Barry Corbin) is anything but a father to Annie. Buck is a man who is for himself and his crooked dealings, because all he cares about is money.

I like it when the Sheriff Wilson Landry (Tom Skerritt) gives the toast—Whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses.

Another deputy who is simply in his own orbit is Skunk(Ted Nugent) one reason is his badge is tattooed on his chest, and he carries two guns stuck in his belt—no holsters.

Charlie (Willie Nelson) is a guy they met on the way to Mexico to rescue Annie. Charlie helps them repair Luther’s truck, because Luther went off the highway looking at a girl when she pulls her t-shirt up to show her breast.

Dwayne Johnson and Christopher Walken in---The Rundown (2003)

Our movie begins with Beck (The Rock—Dwayne Johnson) who is a hard-hitting wannabe chef trying to finish an assignment for his mobster boss Walker (William Lucking) as a bounty hunter.

Beck (The Rock) is sent to collect $50,000 from a football player who owes the money for a gambling debt. After the football player chose the wrong way to solve his issue. Beck retrieves his Super Bowl Ring for collateral until the debt is paid.

However, before Beck can get in his car another guy Walker sent as a backup man shoots him with paint packs and takes the ring.

When Beck arrives at the Walker home he is not in too good a mood to say the least. He tells Walker he wants his money and he wants out.

That he wants to start his restaurant, but Walker tells him--- if he will do one more job for him; he will have his restaurant.
Walker gives Beck an envelope with photos of a young man, and Walker tells Beck it is his son, Travis (Seann William Scott). That he wants him brought back to California. And he will find him in the Amazon.
This is where the fun begins, as Beck tracks down Travis Walker the fun begins. Beck has to deal with keeping Travis and outrunning Hatcher (Christopher Walken).

Mariana (Rosario Dawson) who is a bartender and leader of her people who are being used by Hatcher to dig in his mines and are paid very little for their work, and if they often beaten with whips if they disagree in any way.
This is a fun movie, with fast action, and a story with a heart and one of my favorite films, which is out on DVD. However, having The Rock in it did not hurt.

Kelly Preston & Toby Keith in----Broken Bridges (2006)

Broken Bridges is a great family movie. As the movie begins Angela Dalton (Kelly Preston) who is in her office preparing for her T.V. show as a reporter, when Charles (Jeff Portell) the manager of the station walks in and asks Angela what she is wearing for a meeting tonight. Angela replies that she is wearing what she has on.

Then Charles tells her to wear the Armani suit, as she should dress for success. After that scene Angela goes home to change and is reading what Charles ask her to read for an interview. Then her daughter Dixie Leigh Dalton (Lindsey Haun) walks in, and starts telling her mother the great news that she and her boyfriend are playing in a Club next Friday night.

Her mother reminds her that she is on restriction, because she was caught drinking a beer in school. She and Dixie have a few words, and Dixie told her mother that she could not stop her, and leaves the room.

Just then an announcer on T.V. announced that five young soldiers were killed in a training accident and they were all from Angela's hometown in Tennessee.

The phone rings and it is Angela's father Jake Dalton (Burt Reynold) who says I guess you hear that we lost Bobby and four other boys from here, but you wouldn't remember them.

Angela said she did remember them. Then her father hands the phone to Angela mother, Dixie Rose(Tess Harper).
She calls Angela--Angel--and says we lost our Bobby, and your Daddy wants you to come home for the funeral.

The next day Angela and Dixie Leigh are riding in a convertible to Tennessee, to Angela's Hometown. Dixie cannot believe that her mother grew up here, as it is so different from Miami Florida. Angela has a lot to contend with after reaching her hometown, as her father is very short with her and still angry with her after sixteen years. Because her bestfriend told him she was afraid Angela might do something to the baby, when all she really wanted was Bo.

So Angela and her father had a big fight because he believed someone else over his daughter. Angela ended up leaving home alone because her boyfriend Bo Price (Toby Keith) did not show up as he promised to leave with her. This movie is full of family and family values, the singing is great, and when Dixie Leigh sings for the town everyone is amazed. Special appearances by Willie Nelson and I recommend this to everyone who likes romance, and how sometimes one has to go back to proceed forward in their life.

The Peacemaker with George Clooney & Nicole Kidman (1997)

Two trains collided in Russia,

and one carried a nuclear payload. Then the world is put on alert because a nuclear explosion occurred after the crash.

Dr. Kelley does not think this is an accident and she is telling a secured group about the accident, when in walks Lt. Col. Thomas, who is a Special Forces, trained, skilled and take no prisoner's attitude.

Sparks fly when George Clooney who plays Lt. Col. Thomas Devoe is paired with Nicole Kidman who plays Dr. Julia Kelley, a brilliant U.S. nuclear specialist to stop a nuclear terrorist and recover the bombs.

This is a action packed movie, and the chemistry flies all over the place when Dr. Julia Kelly and Lt. Col. Thomas are together. She might be thinking how his hard body would feel pressed tightly against her soft tone one.

Would he react in the normal male way or would be hold back for a firmer commitment--more than lust--that would break the chemistry barrier. She would have to wait for his first move.

He could be think that she might be worth an engagement of some kind--maybe long enough for him to know if he really feels love this time or not.

This film was made in 1997 and the filming locations were:
Jacob Javits Convention Center, 11th Avenue & 34th Street, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA, Los Angeles, California, USA, Macedonia, New York City, New York, USA, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, The Peninsula New York Hotel, 700 5th Avenue at 55th Street, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA United Nations - First Avenue at 46th Street, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA Vienna, Austria

Australia--The Best Love Story of a Decade==Click Link Below:

Proof of Life with Meg Ryan & Russell Crowe

Meg Ryan plays Alice Bowman who is world-traveled and shrewd. Her shrewd skills keep the determined Alice focus as she tried to help her husband, Peter Bowman who has been kidnapped by South American guerrillas.

Russell Crow plays Terry Thorne the professional negotiator hired by Alice to bargain with the guerrillas. Soon Terry realized he is falling in love with Alice, all the while negotiating for her husband's release.

David Morse play Peter Bowman who is an engineer hired by a company that soon becomes uninsured and can no longer employ Terry Thorne to help secure Peter's release.

However, the guerrillas are asking for millions for his life. Peter is abused and treated inhumanly by his kidnappers, but he is a strong, gritty and intelligent man, who loves his wife very much. And he is trying to stay alive to see her again.

Pamela Reed played Janis Goodman, Peter's sister, who is petrified that she will never see her brother again. But she flies over from America to help her sister-in-law, Alice.

David Caruso plays Dino, Terry's friend who is skilled as a professional negotiator, also. He is aware of the chemistry happening between Alice and Terry, just by being around them.

This is a suspenseful and romantically charged movie, just writing about it makes me want to watch my DVD of Proof of Life again.

Proof of Life was made in 2000, and filmed in:
Biedrusko, Poznan, Wielkopolskie, Poland, Ecuador, Lloyd's Building, Lime Street, Broadgate, London, England, UK, , Quito, Ecuador.
