The Italian Job---Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton and Donald Sutherland (2003)

This is a film about a great Italian heist which takes place in Venice, Italy by a team of proficient thieves led by John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) who is a specialist safecracker and Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg) who is John’s protégé and also a professional thief.

Charlie has been with John for many years; they enjoyed a great relationship---like a father and son.

John’s daughter Stella Bridger (Charlie Theron)lives in Philadelphia with a career as a vault technician and has begged her father many times to stop practicing his profession; but to no avail---there is always one more job.

All six team members are assembled in Venice to complete their last job of stealing 35 million in gold bars from Italian gangsters that stole the gold bar themselves. The other members of the team are Steve (Edward Norton), the inside man,

Handsome Rob (Jason Statham) their wheelman, Lyle aka Napster (Seth Green) a computer genius and Left Ear (Mos Def) their explosive expert. The Italian job as they called it would be their last job, and everyone was already dreaming about what to do with their share.

With computerized planning, proficient timing, brilliant research and a skilled team with adaptability at a minute’s notice; the job finished on schedule.

Later Rob drove the team and the gold to the Alps close to the Austrian border where they stop to celebrate with wine; and John gave a toast praising Charlie and his excellent planning of their last job together.

Everyone agreed with the words spoken by John; however, Steve had a funny look on his face. One might even conclude it was jealousy.

John and Charlie walked away from the team to talk in private. The rest of the team shared their plans of what they would do with their share of the money.

The team traveled on the icy bridge to the Austrian border when suddenly a jeep came facing them---then it stopped on the bridge and the jeep behind them stopped. Before anyone could think what was happening Steve pulled a gun and pointed it to Rob’s head and told him to take his hands off the wheel. Then, John told Steve they would find him---Steve shot John three times in the chest, without blinking once.

Charlie told Rob to drive and he did hitting the Jeep in front of them, then going over the railings into the freezing water. When Steve is satisfied everyone is dead---he leaves with his team of killers. John is dead and Charlie hates to leave him.

After telling John’s daughter about her father's death the team started to research and track Steve, because it is payback time. Revenge is motivated by hating and the retribution race is on for the team to find Steve.

Charlie paid a visit to Stella to let her know they found Steve in Los Angeles and an informant said he sold a couple of gold bars to a dealer. He told Stella the team would be in LA after Steve, and asked if she wanted to help them. Charlie said he needed her skill on safecracking. He told her it was not about the money that John was like a father to him too.

Stella initially said no, but changed her mind and called Charlie to tell him she was in. She wanted to see Steve’s face when he was caught; and lost his precious gold.

They arrived in Los Angeles and began to work their plan against Steve. Steve would have other issues in the end bigger than the team’s punishment; because Steve killed Yevhen (Boris Lee Krutonog) the dealer that purchased the gold bars from him. Mashkov (Olek Krupa), Yechen’s cousin would revenge his death.

Transporter 3---Jason Statham, Robert Knepper & Natalya Rudakova

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) popularity and expertise put him at the top of the Transporter Pyramid; leaving him to be selective on any jobs offered him.

This action and adventure started when Frank declined a job; but referred his friend Malcom Manville (David Atrakchi) for the job. So both men were happy with the arrangement.

Happy that is until an Audi A8 crashed into Frank’s living room driven by his friend Malcom. He was bleeding with his injuries and gunshot wounds. Frank called 911 to take his friend to the hospital.

After the EMT’s left with Malcom; Frank started investigating the car, which was still in his house. And, to his surprise he found a young woman named Valentina (Natalya Rudakova) who would not leave the vehicle.

She explained to Frank about the bracelet around her wrist; that it explodes if she is 75 feet away from the car.

And, that Malcom had one on his wrist---so Frank hurries outdoors to stop the Emergency vehicle---but was too late---it exploded.

Frank is knocked out by a hired gangster and carried inside the house.

This is when Frank met Johnson (Robert Knepper) the man who hired his friend Malcom to deliver Valentina and a package to Budapest.

Johnson makes Frank put on an explosive bracelet like his friend Malcom was wearing. Johnson is a sadistic man who wants to be sure both packages are delivered.

Johnson’s downfall will be not knowing Frank Martin and his vengeful ways. First, he will pay Johnson back for the death of his friend, and then he will work on him for being put in jeopardy; as well as Valentina.

How will Johnson close the box of terror he opened when forcing Frank at gunpoint to put on the bracelet, killing his friend, and placing Valentina's life in peril. Hell might be a nice place for Johnson to crawl to when Frank finishes with him.

True Detectives with Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan (TV Series)

This is a raw crime drama about a Louisiana serial killer; proving once again that man is the most cruel and evil animal walking on this planet. Season 1 with its eight (8) episodes immediately got my attention; because of the lives of the two Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division homicide detectives---Rust Cohle and Marty Harty. And, their lives in the 17 years it took them through a Louisiana maze of bayous and smokescreens to solve this crime---when it seemed so many others were against their success of solving this ghastliest mystery. Some scenes I could not watch because of the subject matter, which is unreal to any sane person.

Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) is a husband to his gorgeous wife Maggie Hart (Michelle Monaghan) and father to two beautiful young girls who loved their daddy. He had it all---a career with a wonderful family. However, his asinine thinking that he could love two women caused him to lose his wife and children in divorce. Maggie forgave him once for being unfaithful, but when it happened again---that was the end.

Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) is a dark sad, very intelligent man who never gives up on any clue and has a method which can extract the truth from anyone especially criminals. He is a no-nonsense man with a past who indulged with alcohol to forget for a while, until again the light of day is staring him in the face.

Rust had a family once---a wife and a two year old child who, was killed in an accident. The death of their baby girl destroyed their marriage. And, now his solace is his work, it gave him motivation and in his working hours a time to be sober. His methodical and intelligent techniques seem to aggravate his bosses and others he worked with each day. If only the ones in power had listened to him earlier---years and lives might have been saved.

HMO did a fabulous job in viewing this show for all the fans of Woody and Matthew’s, and we hope they will return in Season 2.

Note: My Grandmother Knight would love this show---I remember she loved reading murder mysteries, crime and the most wanted. I will never understand how my Angelic grandmother could enjoy such books---but she did.

From Paris with Love---John Travolta & Jonathan Rhys Meyers (2010)

James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is an ambitious young aide to the United States Ambassador Bennington (Richard Durden) in France. James floats in a calm sea of dullness serving him. However, James would rather be on an assignment with the job of his passion; as a low rank secret agent for the CIA.

James is hoping to get an assignment in the CIA of a higher-level so he can prove his worth to the agency. And, just when he is enjoying being with his girlfriend---he gets a call from the CIA telling him to pick up his partner Charlie Wax (John Travolta) because he is being detained by French Customers at the airport. Because Charlie does not want to turn over his cans of his favored energy drink to them.

This was James’ first test of the assignment and after Charlie Wax called the French Airport Security Agents everything in the book and then some, he stood defiant against them, Yes,  James was shocked by Charlie's loud mouth with foul words being spit out at anyone or anything that got in this big bad CIA agents’ way. James slapped a Diplomatic Mail sticker on the bag of energy drinks. This solved the issue since the drinks were now protected from Customs.

James’ CIA handler advised him to do what Charlie Wax told him because he was on a very important assignment. Which James found out later it involved terrorist that were responsible for the death of the niece of Secretary of Defense.

Charlie Wax takes James on an action adventure of his assignment and one might describe it as a high-level CIA tutorial where killing and bombing is a big part of the lesson. This will be the beginning of James’ hard lesson on the facts of life as a CIA Operative. Will James make it to the end? Will Charlie Wax and James become friends and contacts to help each other with any future assignments they will be given?

Only after seeing the entire movie will one be able to answer all the questions one might want answers to; so buckle up this will be a ride to remember.

The Equalizer---Denzel Washington, Chloe Grace Mortez & Melissa Leo (2014)

Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) becomes tired of his very demanding life so he pseudocide himself in order to live a discreet life in Boston. With his background training of a previous black ops commando he was a trained killing machine.

He retired from being a helper to the helpless who could not defend themselves. Envision how quick his reflexes react to a sudden move from an unknown enemy or a shadow suddenly in his view.

Even on a beautiful calm sunny day lightning can strike and this is what happened when he
visited the Bridge Diner one night. Robert sat quietly sat at his table reading a book.

Then, a young girl who was dressed like she was in business of a “Lady of the Night” named Teri (Chloe Grace Mortez) started a conversation with him by asking what his book was about.

He told her it was about a knight in shining armor, which she made a reply. He then told her she could be anything she wanted to be---to change her world.

Later she walked out to meet someone in a car when suddenly one of his men hits her across the face and pushed her inside. And, all of this was done while Robert watched from the window of the diner.

This is not sit right with Robert and he decided he would rescue her from the pimps who took her. So, he used his skills to find her, and then he used his skills to kill the five pimps.

He later found out from his former handler (Melissa Leo) these five men were Russian gangsters aka Russian Mafia. Robert came out of retirement to save a helpless girl, and now the Russian Mafia will be hot on his trail for revenge.

Since the Russians do not know Robert McCall’s background they are in full force to find and kill him. I am afraid they will be in for a big surprise.

I am so happy to see Denzel Washington---one of my favorite actors back in an action film. So mark your calendars for September 26, 2014 for the premiere of the Equalizer.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham & Jet Li in---Expendables 3

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is back again with his incredible  team in Expendables 3, the world’s greatest mercenaries will face one of their deadliest nemesis--- Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson) who Barney thought he killed years ago. Revenge has reared its ugly head and means to extinguish The Expendables.

Conrad and Barney established “The Expendables” together years ago. However, Conrad chose the wrong path when became involved in dealing as a weapons trader. Barney had to eliminate him; however Conrad lived; and now has an agenda, which includes killing Barney and all the team.

Barney’s original team is still with him, and they are: Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen ( Dolph Lundgren), Hale Caesar ( Terry Crews), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and an old friend of Barney’s  Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) drops in to help Barney and the team.

After Barney and his team came in contact with the alive and vengeful Conrad---Barney knew he had to add younger, quicker men with more Hi-Tech knowledge; than the original team. So, the team with years of experience plus the younger savvy team equal the zenith of all teams--- they were ready to rid the world of Conrad Stonebanks.

The younger savvy team: Surgeon (Wesley Snipes), Rapido (Antonio Banderas), Smilee (Kellan Lutz), Luna (Ronda Rousey), Thorn (Glen Powell), Mars (Victor Ortiz) with Bonaparte (Kelsey Grammar), and Max Drummer (Harrison Ford).

This is a magical team and I cannot wait to see the movie “The Expendables 3,” which will premiere August 15, 2014, on Friday---mark your calendars for supreme action, adventure and thrills in this movie----this is over the top with shooting stars.

Lucas Black in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) lives with his mother Ms. Boswell (Linda Boyd) who is a single parent, in America. Sean is always getting into trouble---his mother has moved numerous times and started over because of Sean and his illegal street racing.

Sean has hit the top of the trouble meter again; because of racing in a new construction site against Clay (Zachery Ty Bryant) resulting in his car being totaled, and causing property damage, as well as being hurt.

Since his mother had no choice, she sent him to his father Major Boswell (Brian Goodman) in Tokyo, Japan to live or go to prison.

After he arrived, his father told him the rules he must follow; which are go to school and come home after school.

Sean had a little difficulty at first obeying his father’s rules, but he soon learned to communicate with him about being late.

Tokyo is a beautiful city with avid illegal racing done in the streets and parking garage buildings. However, their racing is called drift racing, it is different from American racing.

Sean meets Twinkie (Bow Wow) in class and learned from him about drift racing in Japan.

Sean meets Neela (Nathalie Kelley) at school and likes her right away; however, he found out that D.K. (Bryan Tee) the “Drift King” considered her his property. So, Sean has found his nemesis in racing and more as they both want Neela for their own.

Han (Sung Kang) allows Sean to race his valuable car in his first race in Tokyo, and because of his inexperience in drift racing he demolished Han’s car.

Han is an associate of D.K. and they are both involved in the underworld business in Tokyo. Where Han is handsome and likeable---D.K. is a bully and mean.

Han gives Sean lessons in drift racing and he becomes very good. So good in fact that D.K. hates him.

So the action begins as Sean is not afraid of D.K. or his gangster uncle. He will stand his ground against any man---and for a teenager---I say bravo for Sean.

And, as for D.K.--- like I said he is a bully who depended on his kinship to his uncle to intimidate others.

:

This is a great racing movie---I will watch it again and again.

Appaloosa---Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen & Renee Zellweger (2008)

It is 1882 in New Mexico where the badlands of the territory seem to breed hired killers, and gangs of robbers including those who murdered without remorse.

New Mexico did not become a state until 30 years later in 1912, until then a lot of good men died trying to bring justice to the people of the region.

It was a time when wearing a badge for any lawman did not guarantee respect; only a bigger target for killers.

The Marshal of Appaloosa Jack Bell (Robert Jauregui) and his two deputies rode out to RB Ranch to arrest two men who had killed a man and his wife in cold-blood.

However, the owner of the ranch Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) told the Marshal he was out of his jurisdiction, and that he could not spare the men.

The Marshal told one of the deputies to cut the two men out of the group and when he rode a few feet, Randall Bragg shot him, the marshal and the other deputy.

When the Marshal and his deputies did not return to town; the town council hired Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) who are traveling experience lawmen. Cole and Hitch are hired by frantic towns as marshal and deputy to bring law and order by implementing new laws for the towns, and if that did not work; their guns spoke for them.

Anyone who rides into town and does not abide by the laws, they are arrested; however if they resist by firing their weapons; they are killed. This is what happened to three of Bragg’s men.

To add spice to the town a widow Mrs. Allison French (Renee Zellweger) arrived in Appaloosa and caught the attention of Cole.

Hitch also liked Allison, but she was interested in Cole. Cole helped her get employment as a piano player; and in no time they were buying a house that was being built.

This is where Appaloosa begins to get complicated in the romance and enforcing the law areas. Will Cole and Allison become a married couple?

Maybe Allison had a secret agenda? Does she really care for Cole? Will Hitch stay in Appaloosa and give up his wandering ways? Will Appaloosa become a respectable town? And, will Cole and Hitch still be a team?
I enjoyed my DVD of Appaloosa; and I am sure it will be watched over and over again. One can always see something new when watching a movie more than once.

Happy viewing and I hope you enjoyed visiting my movie blog. Thanks.

Gone Girl---Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris (October 3, 2014)

Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) were married four years, happily or not.

Well, it would depend on whom you asked. Nick, a tall dark and very handsome man married Amy a beautiful blond, and they started their lives together in marital bliss and in the same profession as writers.

Now, I for one know how dedicated one has to be in order to write a news-worthy story or article, which will sell if you are a freelance writer.

Or, if you work as a journalist for a newspaper or magazine one has to also meet the deadlines in order to keep your job.

So, it seems that Nick and Amy jointly hit a very rough patch by not making any money in their profession. So, when this happens to a young couple—it seems the solution is to move back home---where one can heal in the glow of their family and close friends.

However, this does not always prove to be the best solution if one of them is not delighted with living in a small town environment, when New York was where he/she is happy.

We all know what happens behind closed doors, is not always---what is seen in, public. A couple who cannot keep their hands off each other when dining out with friends---are often fooling themselves---about their true feeling.

A happy couple does not need to prove to others they love and desire each other---what is in one’s, heart is shared and cherished at home.

So, the very day Nick and Amy were to celebrate their fifth (5th) wedding anniversary; Amy disappeared. Not only does this seem a little too clever, but well planned to happen on a wedding anniversary.

I see a message here from an angry Amy to a bewildered Nick---saying you will be sorry now for taking me from New York---to this nowhere town.

As usual when a wife is missing---the husband is the number one suspect. And, when a couple has not been happy for any length of time---sometimes the one who feels neglected seeks affection elsewhere.

So, are we to believe that Nick is a killer or did Amy run away to find a more exciting life. She sounds a little spoiled if she really did this to her husband and family.

We can only wait to see if Amy is alive and well or if Nick really killed her? Or maybe an old boyfriend is getting his revenge by kidnapping her. Will we know on October 3rd? I will be there with my Popcorn and Milk Duds waiting for the movie to start because any movie Ben Affleck is in---I want to see it.

Nowhere to Run with Jean-Claude Van Damme & Rosanna Arquette

Sam Gillen (Jean-Claude Van Damme) a citizen of Canada was capture by Federal Officers of the United States for a bank heist.

Sam’s partner Billy (Anthony Starke) in the robbery killed a security guard, but Sam was caught for the crime and he's now on his way to a Federal Prison with a bus load of criminals.

Sam did not turned Billy in because he was accepting the responsible for his part in the crime.

However, Billy would not let Sam down---determined to help his friend who took the rap for him---he stopped the prison bus by making it over-turn and helped Sam to escape.

Sam drove away fast---but not fast enough to save Billy; who was shot in the neck by a prison guard as they sped down the highway from them.

Sam kept going and listened to Billy tell him about the suitcase he had for him. Sam’s friend Billy died as he made his run for life in Billy’s fast car. When Sam felt he was far enough away he stopped and buried his friend Billy as the sunset in the evening darkness.

He found the suitcase Billy had left him in the trunk and changed into a suit, and took some of the money left for him; then went shopping for food.

Sam did not know where he was going at the moment he just knew he needed to find a place to hide for a while.

So he put up a tent in a wooded area by a large pond thinking no one would find him and then he fell asleep from exhaustion; as his journey furnished plenty of excitement the last two days.

He woke up later to darkness, and thinking about his supply of groceries-- he forgot to buy salt---so he started to look around to see maybe a little store might be near. He took his flashlight to explore his surroundings and he carefully made his way through the woods.
What Sam found was a farm that belonged to Clydie Anderson (Rosanna Arquette) who was a widow with two children Mike ‘Mookie’ Anderson (Kieran Culkin) and Bree Anderson (Tiffany Taubman).

He watched Clydie take the children upstairs to bed. Then she came back down to take a shower.

Sam knew he should not watch her undress and get in the shower---but he could not help himself. Then while she took her shower Sam broke in the house to borrow salt.

The old farm house had squeaky floor boards that alerted Mookie and he get up. Sam grabs the salt shaker before he quickly left the farm house and returned to his tent.

Sam in the end becane a hero to the family as he tried to help save their farm from an unscrupulous property developer Franklin Hale ( Joss Ackland) who had the local dishonest Sheriff Lonnie Cole (Edward Blatchford) secretly working for him and his henchman Mr. Dunston (Ted Levine) all trying to persuade Clydie to sell her farm.

If she does not sell to him--- then Franklin Hale’s business will fold because her property is the last one. He manipulated other property owners by any means he could use to get their property.

Now, he will use his strong tactics with the help of Lonnie and his other men to convenience her to sell. Which makes Lonnie the worse one of all because he is suppose to care for Clydie.

And this is when Sam steps in and levels the playing field. And the action begins as he tries to right the wrongs done to Clydie and her family.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of my favorite action actors---he soars high with his millions of fans and I am one. And, he will be in Expendables 3 and that makes me very happy.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in---Bad Boys II

Detective Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Detective Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are Narcotics cops in Miami. They work closely together as partners in their jobs and are good friends after work.

Their motto is we ride together---we die together—meaning they will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

They are in charge of the task force scrutinizing the flow of Ecstasy being trafficked into Miami, which comes in astronomical amounts into the United States by covert means.
Mike and Marcus as part of the TNT (Miami PD's Tactical Narcotics Team) assigned by Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano) their boss to stop the inundation of Ecstasy on our shores.

And, the worst part of their assignment would be to track down a very dangerous criminal named Hector Juan Carlos “Johnny” Tapia (Jordi Molla) who is a Cuban drug lord with the ambition of controlling the entire ecstasy business in the United States.
The once very close relationship that Mike and Marcus claimed is now a little shaky, because they each are keeping a secret from the other.

Mike secret is one that involves deep feeling that he has for Sydney “Syd” Burnett (Gabrielle Union) is Marcus’ sister.

Now, we know why it is a secret. Syd has her own secret besides in the romance department---she is working undercover for the DEA, and is in deep cover with the notorious Johnny Tapia.
Marcus’ secret is he wants to spend more time with his family and a lot less time with Mike. And, this is the reason he put in for a transfer without talking to his partner Mike about it. Marcus is a little jealous of Mike’s popularity with everyone, especially women.

So personal feelings put aside as Mike and Marcus roared through Miami on the trail of Johnny Tapia. Will Miami survive the two of them as they race through the heavy traffic as they miraculously avoid death in hot pursuit of the criminals?
It is bad enough when Marcus finds out his sister is working undercover for the DEA, and even worse when Johnny Tapia kidnapped her.

Mike and Marcus put their pettiest aside to save Syd and maybe in the end it will save their once very close relationship on the job and off.
I am happy that Bad Boys 3 will be in theaters July 4, 2015. I love these action movies. And it always helps that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are two of my favorite actors.

Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner

Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) is an extremely successful venturesome romance novelist---who lives in New York City---with her cat Romeo. Joan writes about action, adventure and romance just as she desired to experience it.

Full of thrills, titillating romantic adventures which changes within a heartbeat, into the abyss of excitement; which Joan lacked in her life. However, she could write about it and bring it to life in the pages of her books.

She is totally different from her character Angelina, who is beautiful, sexy; self-reliant and loves her hero Jessie. It was her imagination and with her typewriter she brought her hero Jessie to bigger than life in every novel. Joan---an excellent writer who lived through her novels---to give it more ambiance; enjoying every second until she typed her last word.

Excitement did not reign in her life as a writer's she had little time to socialize; because of her dedication to writing. Her small circle of friends included her agent Gloria (Holland Taylor); whom she had a meeting with in a local bar to deliver her just completed novel to her.

Gloria tried to get Joan interested in some of the men in the bar; but to no avail. Joan let her know they did not interest her. Gloria said: Why not because they are not Jessie? Joan replied: I know there is someone out there for me. It seemed to Joan they has this same conversation each time they met.

Joan worried about her sister Elaine (Mary Ellen Trainor) who is in Columbia where her husband was recently murdered. She probably thought about this as she opened the door to her apartment and found it burglarized, and before she could call the police to report it her sister Elaine called. She asked Joan if she received an envelope from her husband and did it contain a treasure map?

Ralph (Danny DeVito) and his brother Ira (Zack Norman) kidnapped Elaine and stood by her side as she telephoned her sister Joan. Joan verified she received the package and her sister asked her to bring it to Columbia.

So Joan is now on her way leaving her cat with her agent until she returned. Joan arrived in Columbia and luckily missed connecting with Ralph who was there to drive her to her sister Elaine. But Joan boards a bus to Cartagena or so she thinks. She got on the wrong bus because she accepted assurance from the same man who burglarized her apartment, and killed her super in New York City and is stalking her for the map.

The bus accidentally runs into a parked truck filled with birds. The other passengers leave to walk the bus route; while the wicked stalker talked Joan into waiting for the next bus. And, while she waited patiently sitting on her suitcase, the man who wanted the map pointed his gun at her.

This is the moment Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) a Soldier of Fortune showed up on the hilltop, and the stalker with a gun shot a hole in his water pouch. Then a gunfight breaks out as Jack chases the bad guy away sending his bullets flying over his head as he runs away.

Then Joan asked for Jack’s help to get to Cartagena and offered to pay him. Jack asked for $500.00; but settled for $350.00 in travelers check. And, then the adventure of Joan’s life is born; and so is our movie entertainment.

We can travel along with them through the jungles, mudslides and Crocodiles. We watched as their relationship developed on a closer level; and Joan starts to enjoy her adventure.

So, the once mousy Joan becomes a real beauty as her journey continued and she blossomed into a woman who likes having fun.

Joan’s true life adventure out shined her character Angelina’s in her novels, and Jack emulated
Jessie’s character so closely it is chilling.

I became a fan of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner from this movie, and I am still one of their greatest fans, today. I hope you enjoyed my review and please return for more. Thanks.

Uncommon Valor---Gene Hackman, Patrick Swayze & Robert Stack (1983)

Rare courage is what the men in this movie had and they went above and beyond what our own United States Government would not do to bring MIA’s home to their families.

Marine Colonel Jason Rhodes (Gene Hackman) discharged because of his adamant determination to get our government to search for the missing MIA’s that everyone knew were still being held prisoners by Vietnamese.

Even ten years later all anyone in government would say is they were negotiating with the Vietnamese government. And, we all know they did not try, because none of their sons were MIA and it is doubtful any of them even fought in the war.

Besides, this was not a popular war when it was going on, so they mainly just wanted to keep it quiet and not let anyone make waves to draw attention to a war that North Vietnam won.

Colonel Rhodes finally acquired evidences of where the P.O.W. camp’s location---after his son Frank was a MIA---for ten years. MacGregor a wealthy business man financially backed the mission because his son was MIA and fought with Colonel Rhodes son Frank (Todd Allen).

So he begins recruiting the guys who served with his son’s platoon. It was a slow at first, because some of the guys had families and were reluctant to give up their lives after ten years of being home in America.
Finally, he obtained the men he needed for the mission, Blaster (Reb Brown), Sailor (Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb), Kevin Scott (Patrick Swayze), Charts (Tim Thomerson), Johnson (Harold Sylvester) and Wilks (Fred Ward).

All the men had weapons experience and skilled in combat to stay alive in the war. All the men but Kevin Scott; who’s a Former Force Recon Marine and sharp shooter skilled in hand to hand fighting, but no combat experience. Kevin trained the men in a refresher course to get them ready to hit hard, fast and get out with the MIA’s.

Sailor gave Kevin a hard time at first until Colonel Rhodes told the men the reason he was helping. Kevin’s father was a MIA from the Vietnam War, his helicopter was shot down. Then a new respect for Kevin from all the men developed.

The US government spied on the group while they were being trained in Texas and listen in on their conversations; and even had the CIA take their weapons and truck away, but that did not stop them. They used the money MacGregor gave then in Texas before they left from home.

They hired a guide with horses and he brought his two daughters with him to help. The trip was not always easy going through the jungle; but they never complained.  They just made their way until they reached the P.O.W. Camp.

This is an amazing movie---but any movie Gene Hackman is in---is always special. These actors are the “Cream of the Crop” of action actors and some of my very favorites.

Mark Wahlberg in Shooter (2007)

Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) and best friend and spotter Donnie Fenn (Lane Garrison) were on a clandestine Ethiopian mission. Bob earned the title as one of the few supreme marksmen on earth and that is why he was high on a mountain overlooking the road. To protect their military convoy as they drove to their destination.

They were in constant contact with the command post and the top ranking officer in charge. When a surprise group of well-armed Ethiopians came in behind the American military convoy a battle began with Bob and Donnie doing a great job of eliminating the enemy.

Until an enemy helicopter surprised them---to take them out--- they called the command post for help. The top ranking office had closed the command post down as the fighting escalated. The officer in-charge did not want to get caught being in a foreign country without the knowledge of his superiors so he pulled the mission and left Bob and Donnie to fight and get home the best way they could.

And, that is when bullets ripped through Donnie from the helicopter and Bob shot it down. But that did not bring his friend Donnie back; and after he made it home he retired from the military.

That happened three years before and now Bob lived alone in the Rockies with his dog Sam. Bob enjoyed the quiet beauty of his winter wonderland and the peacefulness. He made a few close friends who helped each other out on occasion.

Suddenly, his quietness deteriorated as a black SUV drove down his road, with Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) with two of his men, Jack Payne (Elias Koteas) and Louis Dobbler (Jonathan Walker) who came to see Bob on a mission.

Bob avoided any government connection and his dog Sam did not like them either, especially the man name Jack, when Sam growled for them to stop walking near the house, he put his hand on his gun. Bob stepped out and told him to stop with his hand on his knife.

Colonel Johnson called his man off and he and Bob went in the cabin to talk. Long story short he wanted Bob to scout out three different cities the president would be visiting and advised them which city would it be possible for a sniper to take a long-range shot.

The Colonel and his men left without Bob’s answer---he thought about it and then called a friend to stop by and feed Sam for him a couple of days, and then he started on his trip.

Bob found two unlikely sources who helped him and they became friends one was Sarah Fenn (Kate Mara) Donnie’s widow and Nick Memphis (Michael Pena) a FBI agent. They believed in his innocence and helped him until the end.

This movie's exploded with action, mystery, revenge, betrayal, murder; however, some good came out of all the pandemonium. Anyone who missed it at the theater can buy the DVD like I did, and then watch it anytime you want an action movie night alone or with friends.
