Focus with Will Smith, Margot Robbie and BD Wong (February 27, 2015)

                                                         Nicky and Jess

Nicky Spurgeon (Will Smith) an experienced confidence-man who used his charisma to acquire the trust of his marks; then he and his team of thirty begin setting the stage to pull off a profitable scam. His choice comes from the wealthiest to swindle and as an old-timer at this game he becomes very wealthy too.

His focus interrupted briefly when he met Jess Barrett (Margot Robbie) who wanted in on his cons. Her beauty seems to hypnotize him because he becomes her mentor for a while and even falls for her charms. When his friend Owens (Gerald McRaney) warned him his greatest asset is being inconspicuous---he takes it to heart.

Although Nicky and Jess were romantically involved and he felt for her more than he should; he breaks off their romance to stay focused on his career of scamming. His team depended on him for their living, so personal feelings are too much of a liability. Jess leaves with some heartache and a lot of new skills she learned from Nicky.

36 months later Jess has her own scam business going; with her beautiful face and body what man could resist her charms to become ensnared into a compromising position. Nicky runs into his former love interest in Buenos Aires, he watched Jess a vision in red walk down the stairs straight into his heart again.

                                                  A Beauty in Red
Jess’ smile froze his mind for a minute and he could not breathe---her beauty would do that to any man he whispered to no one in particular. A handsome billionaire who races’ cars is her current target. Her presents on his playing field became an issue because of the target; and the bad boys began trying to play in the same sandbox with bigger shovels.

Nicky’s ongoing plans of his present target proved dangerous because Jess took front and center in the perfect grifter’s mind. How would this end? Would Nicky and Jess walked into the sunset holding hands or would they both end up pushing up daisies. Distraction could prove deadly if Nicky’s focus becomes captured; his fast moves and thinking will be off and, then his life will be over.

John Wick with Keanu Reeves, Bridget Moynahan and Willem Dafoe (October 24, 2014)

What happens when a fire-breathing dragon becomes attacked? It makes ashes of its enemies; and all the fires of Hell cannot compete with the retribution coming their way.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) retired from his profession as a hired assassin to enjoy a normal life with his wife (Bridget Moynahan) until she became terminally ill. John's heart ache became unbearable; his precious wife would soon be gone. His wife gave him a beagle puppy before she died because she wanted him to take care of something living. He would think about the puppy, play with the puppy and not be sad after she was gone.

                                        John Wick's Paybacks are Final
When she died his world spun out of control, only the sweet little gift of love his wife gave him; a puppy saved him. John had something he had to feed and take care of during the night and day. He worked on his 1969 Ford Mustang, a super-fast power car and he never went anywhere without his puppy. He enjoyed his fast car and puppy, but he stayed close to home where he still grieved for his dead wife, but the puppy helped his bruised heart as time passed.

One day while John was filling his gas tank at the station; two guys inquired about buying his car. John told them it was not for sale. Later the two guys broke into John’s home beat him senseless, killed his puppy and stole his car.

That was the biggest mistake of their criminal lives because John went after them for killing the puppy and stealing his car. And, many would pay for this unthinkable evil act against a man and his pet.

New York City would witness the revenge of a man who feared no living being and will kill the killers who killed a helpless puppy; they took everything from him. John’s payback became complicated because one of the goons Losef Tarasov (Alfie Allen) was the son of Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist) a New York City Crime Boss.

Viggo warned his son: It is who you did this to not what you did. And, of course the son Losef with his gangster I.Q. stated he was not afraid of John Wick. Little did he know of what was coming his way; a retribution that would make him want to crawl into Hell with Satan opening the door for him. John Wick did not show mercy or forgiveness; he let his gun speak for him.

                                             Yell, I'm Thinking I'm Back
Everyone from John’s past wanted to know if John is back and after a few shoot-outs he said: Yell, I’m thinking I’m back. And, he proved it in full-blown action mode leaving a trail of paybacks the city will never forget.

Now, one of John’s old friends Marcus (Willem Dafoe) received a contract on John from Viggo Tarasov. And, Marcus’orders are to use everyone to go after John Wick. It looks like Satan will be standing at his door for a long time letting the evil humans in to cool off from John Wick’s evening the score with vengeance.

This is a movie I want to see because I love action movies and I will be in line on October 24th for my ticket---if God is willing and the creek don’t rise---I’ll be there to see one of my favorite actors Keanu Reeves.

Taken 3 with Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Forrest Whitaker-(January 9th 2015)

Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) tried to live a normal life-like anyone else, but his enemies keep coming after him and his family. He retired from the CIA as one of the best operative in the agency; so he could be near his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) in California. Kim lived with her mother and her step-father. Kim persuaded her father to let her go to Paris when she was 17 years old; with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy). He gave in telling her she had to call him as soon as she got there. And, she promised she would.

                                                                  TAKEN

First, in Taken his daughter and her friend Amanda becomes victims of kidnapping in Paris by Albanian Human Traffickers and he gets her back after killing many Albanian gangsters. Then, the Albanians are after him and his family. Brian’s combative skills, explosive expert training and a proficient sniper equipped him as the elite specialist of survival skills in the world.  His particular set of skills did not end at combative training; they just begun there and went on to search and find the enemy and exist as a ghost when necessary. And, he used these skills to save his family.

                              TAKEN 2

Second in Taken 2 his daughter Kim and his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) who Bryan called Lenny--surprised Bryan in Istanbul. Murad Krasniqi (Rade Serbedziji) the father of one of the dead Albanian gangsters who kidnapped Kim in Paris; kidnapped Bryan and Lenny. He gets away again by killing the Murad and more of the kidnappers. Now, he has more enemies added to the list of haters out for revenge.

                                                                   TAKEN 3

In Taken 3 life is almost normal for Bryan for a while as he saw his daughter and his ex-wife often. He and Lenny became good friends after the ordeal in Istanbul. They visited and had drinks together; the three were almost as a family again.

On that terrible day Bryan went to visit Lenny and walked into a ghastly murder scene with her on the bed with blood everywhere. He’d been there a few minute when two cops came in and tried to arrest him.

Bryan knew one of the two people on this earth he loved was dead; and now he had to warn his daughter Kim. Therefore, he could not let them arrest him for a crime he did not commit and leave his daughter flapping in the wind of unawareness. He escaped the two cops and warned his daughter not to trust anyone.

The killer told him soon everyone he loved would be dead. And, Bryan was hot on their trail to end this madness once and for all.

The Police Inspector Frank Dotzler (Forest Whitaker) was after Bryan determined to arrest him. He told Bryan if he went after the killers the FBI, the LAPD and the CIA would be after him and they would find him. Bryan said “Good Luck.”

Fury with Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and Logan Lerman (October 17th 2014)

Fury epitomizes what the fighting men of World War II dealt with, fought with, and the heroes they died with during this horrifying event. This movie tells a story about war, and how the young men received combat-training to fight and kill because it became a necessary evil of do or die; while the war erupted and bellowed around them.

To the fighting men it felt as the doors of Hell opened and each side fought as the fires and brimstone took a life of its own surrounded them. The doors of Hell stood opened for Wardaddy and his men in April 1945 as they fought for freedom for all Americans.

                                                       Fury the Sherman Tank

US Army Staff Sergeant Don “Wardaddy” Collier (Brad Pitt) trained and led his crew with Fury the Sherman Tank to fight against the enemy on their own ground over the enemy lines. Wardaddy’s war-harden face proved his skills rose from the action he experienced in fighting the enemy. Now his mission led him and his men into the heart and soul of Nazi Germany where the evil enemy lived. Fury protected its five member crew as they fought their way through the enemy lines.

The cold facts that Wardaddy faced with his men proved---although outnumbered they fought against a foe with weapons and ammo capable of wrapping them out in seconds. Still they stood tall and brave because of Wardaddy’s promise to keep them alive. He’s the icon of the brave Americans who fought in World War II.

A new assistant driver assigned to Wardaddy named Boyd “Bible“Swan (Shia LaBeouf) whose tender heart became a challenge to toughen and kill the enemy when needed. Wardaddy former gunner saw no target he did not eliminate and now he needed to train Bible in the middle of a war. Bible became a strong soldier who proved courage germinated in war to protect the men beside him.

These dirty, hungry, fatigued and sadden men remained on a mission nearing the end of the war, but his brave men Norman “Cobb” Ellison (Logan Lerman), US Army Cpl. Trini “Gordo” Garcia (Michael -Pena), Grady “Coon Ass” Travis (Jon Bernthal) knew Wardaddy would do what he commanded other to do. You get action and drama in this war film and see how men lived and fought while protecting our freedom.

This movie is a winner for an Oscar for the Best Film category. In my opinion, this is Brad Pitt’s best movie since Legends of the Fall.

David Ayers wore many hats as director, writer and producer; he performed brilliantly and I want to make sure I see more of his movies. This movie had the best people working behind the scenes as their hard work and creative touch is proof in the film.

Kill the Messenger with Jeremy Renner, Michael Sheen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead---Premiere October 10th 2014

A movie based on a true story of the life of an American; Gary Webb, a Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist whose investigation of the men and the government responsible for the crack cocaine epidemic that spread through our nation. This is his account of what happened as much as a movie can depict a man’s search for the truth when he is no longer alive; to verify how closely the movie is to the truth. Kill the Messenger adapted from his book: Dark Alliance.

Kill the Messenger

Gary Webb (Jeremy Renner) an investigative reporter for the San Jose Mercury News searched for the truth and found it. It begins with the CIA backing the Nicaraguan Contras; allowing their smuggled cocaine into the United States then given to certain gangs that processed and sold it as crack cocaine to the south central area streets of Los Angeles in the 1980s. Then, the Contras received the profits for their fight against reconstruction of their government in Nicaragua.

Allegations increased that the US Government along with other agencies are responsible for the epidemic of crack cocaine that explored through the black communities of our nation.

Gary told his friend Fred Weil (Michael Sheen) his story was a true story that needed telling. And, Michael replied: Some stories are just too true to tell. Michael also told him it was dangerous.

When asked by Ronnie Quail (Robert Patrick): You believe in conspiracy theories Gary? Gary said I believe in conspiracy yes, there’s no theory about it. Many were too afraid to believe his story because then people did not view their opinions openly as they do today.
How Crack Funded a CIA War: Gary Webb Interview

I will be happy when this movie premieres on October 10th, 2014 I will be in line to see it. Always remember to research both sides of any story---because truth can sometimes read like fiction.

Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo and Bill Paxton (October 31st 2014 USA)

Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) desperately needed a job; but none existed for him. He wanted to improve his career status, but it began to look hopeless. Until driving home late at night he saw police cars and reporters at an accident where someone was badly hurt.

Lou noticed an aggressive videographer Chris Day (Bill Paxton) in the middle of all the mayhem taking shots of the gruesome scene; while two policemen pulled the victim from a burning car before it exploded . He was captivated and tried to get a job with Chris Day, but Chris rudely shut the van door in his face. He clearly did not want to share his exclusive film of the accident.

Nightcrawler Premiere on October 31st 2014 in USA

This however, did not stop Lou from perusing what he knew would be a great career move. He knew the city shines brightest at night and proved rewarding too. He needed a video camera and a police radio; and hired a young guy named Rick (Riz Ahmed) as the second photographer.

Lou and Rick join the Los Angeles Nightcrawlers, a group of photographers/videographers who make their money off the misery and deaths of others. It is a sleazy business being a crime journalist; taking photos of murders, victims, robberies, traffic accidents, fires, home invasion and any pandemonium happening.

After the first time arriving at a scene before the police, Lou recalled how a kid felt at Christmas opening the gifts he wanted. And, this gave him a career move idea. Lou and Rick arrived on the scene before the police did, and filmed it. Not caring if he disturbed the crime scene or not.

The City Shines Brightest at Night

Lou became super encouraged when Nina (Rene Russo) a television news network manager told him to call her when he had something. And, the nights in L.A. would never be the same because Lou was on the crime scenes before the police and sometimes before the criminals left the crime scene. His life of Nightcrawling became an obsession and very profitable.

Nina wanted more from Lou and she demanded something earthshattering so viewers stayed tuned to her network. Nina the opportunist pushed the Nightcrawler trailblazer to bring her a spectacular film so she surpassed all her competitors.

This movie opens in the USA October 31st and illuminates the screen with all the super action and blazing mayhem for the movie fans.

A Walk Among the Tombstones with Liam Neeson, Dan Stevens & Boyd Holbrook---Premiere is September 19th 2014

A Walk Among Tombstones

One's past can crawl into one's thoughts and stay like a bad dream that lingers during the day, both are difficult to shake.

This is what Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson) deals with in reference to his past as a former NYPD cop.
It was Matt’s day off and he was enjoying free drinks in a local bar reading his newspaper in a back booth hidden from view by anyone entering the bar.

Matt was minding his own business reading his paper when several men came in to rob the bar; and they fired shots at the bartender. In his pursuit of the robbers---he shot the third robber in the leg and the bullet kept traveling until it stopped in the body of an innocent citizen causing death instantly.

Now Matt makes his living as an unlicensed Private Detective. He does jobs for people who give him gifts of money. He was not especially looking for another job at the time he was requested by Kheran Khoury (Dan Stevens) a drug dealer to please come see him.

Kheran Khoury's wife was murdered by kidnappers who received the ransom money, but murdered Mrs. Khoury anyway, and then cut her up in little pieces. Kheran wants Matt to find them so he can do the same to them as they did his wife.

Matt did was not really interested in this job until Kheran played the video where both men were raping his wife. The video got to Matt---now he was furious about a helpless woman being raped and then sending the tape to her husband. Kheran and his brother (Boyd Holbrook) wanted to help Matt search for the killers.

He knew from experience the killers had done this before and would do it again. They were going where the money was and that was the drug traffickers.

Now, action, mayhem and gun fire echoed  through the backstreets from Matt’s support group as they searched the where the lowly scum of the earth frequent. Matt forgets about himself for a brooding while and goes after the killers before they kill again.

This movie will premiere on September 19th the third Friday of September---so mark your calendars for another of Liam Neeson action movies.

The November Man with Pierce Brosnan, Eliza Taylor & Olga Kurylenko

The November Man

Peter Devereaux (Pierce Brosnan) deserved a peaceful retirement after working for the CIA as an operative for many years. His skills were exceptional and synonymous only with his apprentice training of many pupils.

Anyone lucky enough to be his pupil always had the advantage over other spies and operatives. So with deep thought and consideration the CIA paid Peter a visit and requested his services back into the CIA Agency immediately.

One little detail the CIA neglected to tell him----which was one of his training lessons---know your nemeses when you start after the same target. Peter taught everything to his pupils to protect them in this business of spying. And, when he found out his nemesis was his former protégé David Manson (Luke Bracey) and now his rival---Peter was prepared for the challenge.

What happens when the well experienced older operative’s opponent is his younger self; who was energized, with super-fast reflexes, and knew the answer---while his rival was thinking of the question? The agility of Peter Devereaux proved still intact and well-oiled.

Now two human cannons would be firing at each other as they start their assignment, which involves top officials of the CIA and a Russian who is aspiring to be president.
Will Peter save Alice Fournier (Olga Kurylenko) from harm? Will Sarah (Eliza Taylor) be an ally for

Peter or David? We will see all our answers when the movie premieres August 27, 2014. I cannot wait to see Pierce Brosnan in action once again----it has been too long.

S.W.A.T. with L.L. Cool J, Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell & Michelle Rodriguez

The S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics) team is sent to The Valley Trust Bank where shots were fired; they encountered a robbery gone badly with hostages inside. And, an ongoing gun battle in front of the bank with the robbers positioned by the get-away car. S.W.A.T. members are placed on top of the building to enter from the ceiling. Jim Street (Colin Farrell) and Brian Gamble (Jeremy Renner) partners entered into the bank.

Jim Street’s Navy SEAL background prepared him for any assignment the S.W.A.T. team faced; he is calm under stress and well trained in tactical maneuvers

With the outside robbers killed and only two remained inside the bank---the robbers panicked---one robber grabbed a woman and used her as a shield. Brian fired and accidentally hits the woman, then he killed the robber; while Jim killed the other one. The bank is secured for the other hostages to leave, while Jim comforts the woman who was shot by Brian until the EMT’s arrived.

Captain Fuller of California’s LAPD Metro Division (Larry Poindexter) demoted both Jim and Brian off the S.W.A.T.team and, sent them to work in the gun cage. Brian resigns after he told his captain off and tried to hit him. Fuller tried to get Jim to turn on Brian and promised him back on the team if he did. Jim would not do it.

Brian’s hot temper caused him to confront Jim about staying because he was leaving. Jim had not agreed with Brian about shooting the woman in the bank robbery.

They agreed to disagree, after being partners for five years--- Brian leaves after slamming Jim’s head into a mirror, and Jim goes to the gun cage with hope of a chance to return to the S.W.A.T. team in the near future.

The famous ‘Hondo’ aka Sergeant Daniel Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) is called in to help re-organize the S.W.A.T. team. Hondo’s experience is “Old School” and he does it with professionalism---and sometimes his way.

The Chief of Police wanted Hondo to put together a young team trained to get the job done---Hondo’s way. He needed to recruit three to fill the order of the five new trained S.W.A.T. members; he already had T.J. McCabe (Josh Charles) and Michael 'Boxer' Boxer (Brian Van Holt).

Hondo asked Jim to be his driver while he recruited. He recruited Deacon ‘DeKe’ Kay (LLCool J) and Chris Sanchez (Michelle Rodriguez). Then, he asked Jim to fill the last opening and he told Hondo that Fuller would never approve it.

Fuller did approve it and so Hondo's team is completed. Then, the action begins as a French Drug Lord Alex Montel (Olivier Martinez) came to America to kill his uncle. And, unfortunately for him was pulled over for a broken tail light and then arrested. The LAPD received information Montel was an international fugitive with warrants out for him in 12 countries.

Alex Montel is worth billions and shouts out to the crowd and news media he will give a 100 million dollars to anyone who gets him out of prison. The rest of the movie is filled with action and mayhem. The newly trained S.W.A.T. team is put to the test of keeping the fugitive in custody. Or, will he get away? Will the team members be put in jeopardy from greed for the promised 100 million?

The Italian Job---Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton and Donald Sutherland (2003)

This is a film about a great Italian heist which takes place in Venice, Italy by a team of proficient thieves led by John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) who is a specialist safecracker and Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg) who is John’s protégé and also a professional thief. Charlie has been with John for many years; they enjoyed a great relationship---like a father and son.
The Plan was Flawless

John’s daughter Stella Bridger (Charlie Theron) lives in Philadelphia with a career as a vault technician and has begged her father many times to stop practicing his profession; but to no avail---there is always one more job.

All six team members are assembled in Venice to complete their last job of stealing 35 million in gold bars from Italian gangsters that stole the gold bar themselves. The other members of the team are Steve (Edward Norton), the inside man, Handsome Rob (Jason Statham) their wheelman, Lyle aka Napster (Seth Green) a computer genius and Left Ear (Mos Def) their explosive expert. The Italian job as they called it would be their last job, and everyone was already dreaming about what to do with their share.

With computerized planning, proficient timing, brilliant research and a skilled team with adaptability at a minute’s notice; the job finished on schedule.

Later Rob drove the team and the gold to the Alps close to the Austrian border where they stop to celebrate with wine; and John gave a toast praising Charlie and his excellent planning of their last job together. Everyone agreed with the words spoken by John; however, Steve had a funny look on his face. One might even conclude it was jealousy.

Stella Cracks Opens the Safe

John and Charlie walked away from the team to talk in private. The rest of the team shared their plans of what they would do with their share of the money.

The team traveled on the icy bridge to the Austrian border when suddenly a jeep came facing them---then it stopped on the bridge and the jeep behind them stopped. Before anyone could think what was happening Steve pulled a gun and pointed it to Rob’s head and told him to take his hands off the wheel. Then, John told Steve they would find him---Steve shot John three times in the chest, without blinking once.

Into the Subway

Charlie told Rob to drive and he did hitting the Jeep in front of them, then going over the railings into the freezing water. When Steve is satisfied everyone is dead---he leaves with his team of killers. John is dead and Charlie hates to leave him.

After telling John’s daughter about her father's death the team started to research and track Steve, because it is payback time. Revenge is motivated by hating and the retribution race is on for the team to find Steve.

Tube Chase

Charlie paid a visit to Stella to let her know they found Steve in Los Angeles and an informant said he sold a couple of gold bars to a dealer. He told Stella the team would be in LA after Steve, and asked if she wanted to help them. Charlie said he needed her skill on safecracking. He told her it was not about the money that John was like a father to him too.

Stella initially said no, but changed her mind and called Charlie to tell him she was in. She wanted to see Steve’s face when he was caught; and lost his precious gold.

They arrived in Los Angeles and began to work their plan against Steve. Steve would have other issues in the end bigger than the team’s punishment; because Steve killed Yevhen (Boris Lee Krutonog) the dealer that purchased the gold bars from him. Mashkov (Olek Krupa), Yechen’s cousin would revenge his death.

Transporter 3---Jason Statham, Robert Knepper & Natalya Rudakova

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) popularity and expertise put him at the top of the Transporter Pyramid; leaving him to be selective on any jobs offered him.

This action and adventure started when Frank declined a job; but referred his friend Malcom Manville (David Atrakchi) for the job. So both men were happy with the arrangement. Happy that is until an Audi A8 crashed into Frank’s living room driven by his friend Malcom. He was bleeding with his injuries and gunshot wounds. Frank called 911 to take his friend to the hospital.

After the EMT’s left with Malcom; Frank started investigating the car, which was still in his house. And, to his surprise he found a young woman named Valentina (Natalya Rudakova) who would not leave the vehicle. She explained to Frank about the bracelet around her wrist; that it explodes if she is 75 feet away from the car. And, that Malcom had one on his wrist---so Frank hurries outdoors to stop the Emergency vehicle---but was too late---it exploded. Frank is knocked out by a hired gangster and carried inside the house.

This is when Frank met Johnson (Robert Knepper) the man who hired his friend Malcom to deliver Valentina and a package to Budapest. Johnson makes Frank put on an explosive bracelet like his friend Malcom was wearing. Johnson is a sadistic man who wants to be sure both packages are delivered.

Johnson’s downfall will be not knowing Frank Martin and his vengeful ways. First, he will pay Johnson back for the death of his friend, and then he will work on him for being put in jeopardy; as well as
Valentina.

How will Johnson close the box of terror he opened when forcing Frank at gunpoint to put on the bracelet, killing his friend, and placing Valentina's life in peril. Hell might be a nice place for Johnson to crawl to when Frank finishes with him.
